Free Resources You Need to Bookmark
A guest post by Jill Taylor, mother to Hope, her adult daughter with Down syndrome
I’m a reader and a researcher. I turn over every rock when I’m deciphering a need my daughter has, just as I’m sure you do with your child. But no matter how many rocks I have in front of me, or how many articles I’ve read, I always, always take the word of a trusted parent above all else. It’s critical we keep the conversations going, sharing our go-to resources and favorite spaces that support true independence, growth, and just plain fun for our loved ones with Down syndrome.
Here are a few resources always bookmarked on my laptop, so I have quick access to them:
LuMindIDSC is accelerating Down syndrome research and pulling teams together to increase availability of therapeutic, diagnostic, and medical care options for our community.
The National Down Syndrome Congress is a leading national resource for support and information for anyone touched by or seeking to learn about Down syndrome.
Think College is dedicated to developing, expanding, and improving research and practice in inclusive higher education for students with intellectual disability. You can find out more about Virginia’s higher education offerings by heading to our feature article in the Resources tab, Thinking About College? Some options to Consider.
The National Down Syndrome Society empowers individuals with Down syndrome and their families by driving policy change, providing resources, engaging with local communities, and shifting public perceptions.
Virginia Board for People with Disabilities The Virginia Board for People with Disabilities (VBPD) advocates for better services and supports.
